Alice Simpson Britt, 80, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Alice was born on October 20, 1945, to the late Reverend B. Clyde Simpson and Vergie Price Simpson. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Steve D. Simpson, Larry C. Simpson, and Johnny W. Simpson, and brothers-in-law, Bill Griffin and Johnny Benton.
A native of Union County, North Carolina, Alice spent some of her happiest growing-up years in Lumberton, North Carolina. She lived most of her adult life in Charlotte and Cramerton, North Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Alice met the love of her life, James Dewey Britt of Lumberton, NC, at a dance party at "The Hut" in West Lumberton. They were married on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1965, at Berryhill Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. Together, they shared more than 61 years of marriage and built a life centered on faith, family, and love.
Alice worked as a hairdresser in her early years, but her greatest joy was caring for the people she loved. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud Nana, and a faithful friend. She dearly loved her brothers and sisters, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Family was always one of the most important parts of her life.
Alice loved Elvis Presley, cooking, working in her yard and tending her flowers, taking pictures, and spending time at the beach. She had a special gift for making holidays memorable - especially Thanksgiving and Christmas - and created many cherished traditions and memories for her family. She also made birthdays special.
Alice is survived by her beloved husband, James Britt; her son, Jimmy Britt, and his wife, Karen, of Harrisburg, NC; her daughter, Carmen Grindstaff, of Myrtle Beach, SC; her grandchildren, Kolby Grindstaff of Myrtle Beach, SC; Alicen Zachary and her husband, Dylan, of Myrtle Beach, SC; Annie Wilkerson and her husband, Seth, of Monroe, NC; and James Britt, III and his wife, Sabrina, of Charlotte, NC; and her great-grandchildren, Skylar Melton, Kooper Grindstaff, Kase Grindstaff, Mason Zachery, and Audrey Wilkerson.
Alice is further survived by her sisters, Linda Griffin of Matthews, NC; Lucy Benton of Gastonia, NC; Reba Geiger and her husband, Steve, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Merle Coffey and her husband, Tony, of Surfside Beach, SC; her brother, Carey Simpson, and his wife, Rita, of Charlotte, NC; her sisters-in-law, Mellie Simpson, of Unionville, NC, and Lucy Simpson, of Dunn, NC, and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Rocky River Church, located at 887 Pitts School Road SW, Concord, North Carolina 28027. A celebration of Alice's life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Rocky River Church. The service will be officiated by her son, the Reverend Jimmy Britt. Burial will follow at Price Cemetery on Friendly Baptist Church Road in Unionville, North Carolina.
