Anne Elizabeth Suther Hough of Palaside Drive, Concord, entered the Church Triumphant on Sunday, July 26.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1st, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 950 Bradley Street, NE, Concord. Pastor Carrie Bishop will officiate.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:30 p.m. in the church parlor and will be at home at other times.

Burial will be at New Gilead Reformed Church Cemetery, 2400 Old Salisbury Road, Concord, following the service.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Howell, William Long, Ben Anderson, Alan Goodman, Arnold Suther, Daryl Suther, Brooks McGinnis, Jordan Titshaw, and Ethan Simmons.

Born March 28, 1934, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Hough was the eldest daughter of the late O. Rush Suther and Viola Cochran Suther. She began schooling at Clara Harris Elementary School and graduated from Concord High School with the Class of 1952. She attended Lenoir Rhyne College, where she received a Business Certificate.

She married William B. Long Jr. and they had two children, Daphne Anne Long and William B. "Chuck" Long III.

She worked for Luther Barnhardt, Attorney at Law, for one year, Doctor Barry Hawkins, Ardsley Medical Group for 13 years, and Cabarrus Memorial Hospital Louise Harkey School of Nursing for 16 years.

She worked part-time for Cabarrus Meals on Wheels for 8 years. In 1990, she married Barry E. Hough.

Mrs. Hough was a long-time member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the Shepherdess Circle, Chancel Choir, Care and Concern Committee, Worship and Music Committee, and Movers and Shakers. She served on the Church Council and The Endowment Board.

She was a member of the Dogwood Garden Club, Happy Hikers Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Cabarrus County Medical Assistants Association, and volunteered with Cabarrus Meals on Wheels.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, photography, hiking, playing bridge, and watching all sports. Her favorite teams were Concord High Spiders, Lenoir Rhyne Bears, North Carolina Tar Heels, Appalachian Mountaineers, VCU Rams, Carolina Panthers, and Atlanta Braves.

She was preceded in death by Barry E. Hough (November 2024) and daughter-in-law Ellen J. Long (September 2017).

She is survived by daughter Daphne L. Rankin and husband Richard of Richmond, Virginia; son William B. "Chuck" Long III of Lewisville, North Carolina; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters; aunt Betty P. Suther; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
