Barbara Ann Elwood Walker

Barbara Ann Elwood Walker, 87, of Concord, passed away Friday, August 7, 2026, at Kannapolis Health and Rehab, surrounded by her loving family.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Wilkinson Funeral Home.

A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, officiated by Rev. Aaron Edwards of First Baptist Church.

Barbara was born November 27, 1938, in Cabarrus County to the late Pearl Sides Elwood and the late Roy Elwood. She was a graduate of Concord High School class of 1956.

Throughout her life, Barbara held a number of positions that allowed her to serve and connect with people in her community. She worked for approximately 20 years with Wilkerson's Furniture, where she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary. She also worked for approximately 10 years as a dispatcher with the police department and spent time substitute teaching in the local schools. Barbara especially enjoyed her time working in daycare, where her love for children allowed her to make a difference in the lives of many young people. Her family also fondly remembers her helping with children's birthday parties at McDonald's years ago.

Barbara enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved reading, working crossword puzzles and word searches, and coloring - anything that kept her mind active. She had a special place in her heart for children and treasured the time she spent working with them. Above all, Barbara loved her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Johnston Walker, with whom she shared approximately 65 years of marriage; daughter, Crystal Renken of Kannapolis; grandson, Alvin Renken and girlfriend, Marissa, of Salisbury; and great-grandsons, Judd Renken and Gunner Renken.
