Betty Towell

Mar 14, 1931 — Jul 1, 2026

Betty Ruth Morrison Towell, 95, of Concord, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026.

A celebration of her life will be held at Wilkinson Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8th with visitation from 11:00-11:45 and the service following in the chapel at 12:00. She will be laid to rest at New Gilead Reformed Church Cemetery.

Betty was born on March 14th, 1931, to the late Luther McKinley Morrison and Agnus Elizabeth Brewer Morrison in North Wilkesboro, NC. She graduated from Wilkesboro High School in 1949, and entered Cabarrus Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1952. While in nursing school, she met the love of her life, Johnny Towell, and they were married on September 7th, 1952. Upon graduation, she worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital for 16 years and then became a stay-at-home mother for 16 years. After the death of her husband, she went back into nursing, taking a refresher course at UNC Chapel Hill scoring the highest in her class. She finished her career as an RN at Five Oaks nursing home.

Betty was the heart and matriarch of her family, a woman of unwavering faith whose strength, resilience, and love touched everyone who knew her. A devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother, she found the greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved traveling and making memories on family vacations and enjoyed cheering on her favorite North Carolina sports teams. While her family will miss her dearly, they find comfort in knowing she has entered the gates of heaven and is now resting peacefully in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Luther and Agnus Morrison; her husband Johnny Towell; her brothers Bobby, Nolan, Junior, and Thomas Morrison; and grandson Rome Allen.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughters, Janice Allen (Tony) of Clevland, TN., Judy Johnson (Sonny) of Brewton, AL., and Julie Tennis (Patrick) of Concord, NC; grandchildren Emily Phillips, Kristen Calestini, Jevon Wade (Emily), Josh Wade (Danielle), Jamie Johnson, Diana McQuaig, Ryan Tennis (Casey), Jenna Phillips (Glenn), and Ashton Tennis (Savannah); eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great children, and her brothers, Harold Morrison (Jeanette) and Ronnie Morrison (Janet).

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care given by the hospice nursing staff of Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care Cabarrus and to Wilkinson Funeral Home for assisting the family.
