Brittney McKinney

Brittney Alise McKinney of Cape Coral, Florida, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026. She was born on January 1, 1989, in Hollywood, Florida.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 30th at Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord, NC from 1:00 to 2:00 pm with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at 2:00 with Rev. Steve Leigh officiating. Burial will be in West Concord Cemetery.

Brittney was kind, loving, and beautiful inside and out. She had a gentle spirit and a warmth that made her deeply loved by everyone who knew her. Although she faced personal struggles throughout her life, those struggles never defined who she was. She was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, cousin, and friend.

Brittney was a dedicated and accomplished woman who valued education and helping others. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication from Macon State College, followed by a Master's degree in Communication and a second Master's degree in Counseling from the University of Central Florida. Her commitment to learning and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others were meaningful parts of who she was.

Brittney shared a very special bond with her grandparents, Benny Carter and Pat Carter. They held a special place in her heart, and the love they shared remained deeply meaningful throughout her life. The memories they made together will always be treasured by her family.

Her mother, Benita, lovingly called her "Sunshine," a special name that reflected the love and connection they shared. Although Benita passed away a few years ago, the bond between mother and daughter remains a treasured part of Brittney's story and will forever be remembered by those who loved them.

Brittney is survived by her adoptive parents, Carmen and Deborah McKinney of Cape Coral, Florida; her grandfather, Benny Carter; her beloved siblings and cousins; and extended family and friends who loved her dearly.

Though Brittney's life was far too short, the love she gave and the memories she created will remain with us. We will remember her beautiful smile, her kindness, her laughter, her accomplishments, and the little things that made her uniquely Brittney.

Her passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot express. Yet we are grateful for every moment we were blessed to share with her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved her.

Rest peacefully, Brittney. You will always be loved, remembered, and missed.
