Concord

Charles "Charlie" Martin Barbee, 77, a lifelong resident of Cabarrus County, passed away suddenly on May 24, 2026.

Charlie was born on July 13, 1948, to Henry Theodore Barbee Jr. and Dorothy Genolia Cline Barbee. He graduated from Odell High School and went on to attend Rowan Technical College, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Tool and Die Making.

He began his career at Industrial Dynamics in Davidson as a tool and die maker. Charlie later joined Philip Morris as a maintenance mechanic, where he built a long and respected career until his retirement, coinciding with the closure of the Cabarrus plant and its relocation to Richmond, Virginia.

In retirement, Charlie remained active and engaged. He devoted time to Barbee Farms, became known throughout the neighborhood as a dependable "fix-it" man, and cherished time spent with his four grandchildren.

Charlie was a dedicated member of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully served over the years as a Deacon, a member of the Session, and on the Cemetery Committee. He also volunteered at McGill Baptist Church, sharing his expertise with their community garden.

Charlie will be remembered for his steady hands, generous spirit, and his willingness to help anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Theodore Barbee Jr. and Dorothy Genolia Cline Barbee. The love of his life, Sharon Kerr Barbee passed away June 5, 2026.

He is survived by his sons, Paul Barbee and wife Danielle, and Kevin Barbee and wife Hillary; his grandchildren, Emmaline-June, Miłosz, Caleb, and Payton; his brother, Tommy Barbee and wife Anna; and his nephew Brent Barbee, his wife Dana Barbee, and their son Cody Barbee.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 28, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A joint funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, at 6:00 p.m., at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
