Charles Raymond White

Charles Raymond White — Charlie to everyone fortunate enough to know him — left this world on Thursday, July 23, 2026, just one week after celebrating his 85th birthday. He was a man of rare depth and quiet brilliance with an ear for accuracy as well as a devoted family man with an appetite for knowledge. Charlie was a gentleman who could name constellations and symphonies as easily as he could recite the stories of several generations of his and others ancestry. In every sense of the phrase, he was one of a kind.

Charlie possessed a gift for language that delighted those who knew him — The kind of wit that doesn’t shout — it slides in, hits its mark, and leaves everyone smiling at the brilliance of it. He noticed when something didn’t make sense and wouldn’t hold back, letting us know how he really felt.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM, both at Wilkinson Funeral Home, 100 Branchview Drive NE, Concord, North Carolina. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Team. A graveside service will follow at 4:30 PM at Trinity Memorial Park on Rockford Drive in Randolph County, where Charlie will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife.

Born on July 16, 1941, in Guilford County, North Carolina, Charlie was the son of the late Kathleen Esther Johnson White and the late Raymond Gibson White and grew up in Archdale, NC, and is now reunited with his wife, Joyce Ann Logan White, who preceded him in death in September 2020, and with his brother, Harold “Joe” White, who passed away in July 2023.

Charlie was raised in a family of teachers, where focus, responsibility, and curiosity were part of daily life. He learned to read unusually early and graduated third in his class from Trinity High School at sixteen. He was active in church from the start, teaching Sunday School at Trinity United Methodist Church. He attended Duke University on scholarship, earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1962, and later pursued postgraduate studies at Wichita State University, achieving his CPA certification.

He served his country in the United States Army from November 26, 1963, until his honorable discharge on September 20, 1965. After returning to High Point, he began both his family life and a banking career that would span decades and multiple mergers — from Northwestern Bank to First Union to Wachovia to Wells Fargo. Throughout his career, Charlie was known for his steady, careful work in corporate accounting and for understanding not only the details but the people behind them. He found joy in teaching others, coaching youth basketball at the YMCA, teaching high school economics, and serving his community through volunteering, donating, and participating in church projects.

Charlie and his family settled in Concord in the mid‑1980s, and the community became home. Over the years, there were frequent family excursions to explore the history of NC and southeastern US, with frequent stops to various libraires, register of deeds, and historical landmarks. He loved to visit family and friends and frequented family reunions. He was passionate about Duke basketball, Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs baseball. His love of music spanned genres: from classic country and bluegrass, Bob Dylan and Roger Miller alongside Handel and Mozart, and many more.

Charlie was especially dedicated to genealogy. He researched both sides of his family back several generations, preserving names, relationships, and stories. For his family, his work remains a meaningful legacy.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann White Doub, and her husband, Wake, of Huntersville; his son, David “Dave” Charles White; his cherished granddaughter, Hayden Elizabeth Doub; and his sister‑in‑law, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” White of Apex. He leaves behind a family shaped by his steadiness, curiosity, and love — and a community made richer by his presence.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorials to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, in gratitude for the compassionate team who helped Charlie.
