Cheryl Myers Lange

Cheryl Myers Lange was the kind of person who made every room feel warmer just by walking into it. She was a devoted wife and mother, a gifted educator, a passionate advocate for her students, and a woman who gave generously of herself to everyone she loved. At 48 years old, she was in the fullness of a life well lived — a life marked by purpose, by laughter, by deep relationships, and by the quiet, steady impact that only the truly remarkable leave behind. On Thursday, July 16, 2026, Cheryl passed away unexpectedly at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, leaving behind a family and a community who will carry her light with them always.

Cheryl was born on December 1, 1977, in Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, to Thomas Caldwell Myers and Loretta Myers (Collette). She grew up in the Concord area and came of age with an extraordinary academic drive and a gift for connecting with people. She graduated from Central Cabarrus High School before going on to UNC Charlotte as a Teaching Fellow and earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000. She acquired a Master of Library Science from UNC Greensboro — a path that reflected both her love of books and her desire to bring that love to others. She also completed a Masters in Administration at UNC Pembroke in 2024.

Cheryl was an educator in the truest and most devoted sense of the word. She started her teaching career as an English teacher at Central Cabarrus High School and parlayed her love of books into a media coordinator position. She eventually moved to Corriher-Lipe Middle School as their Media Coordinator and was named the NC Media Coordinator of the year in 2013-2014. In 2023 she went back to college to earn her Masters degree in Administration and moved to East Rowan High School, where she served as an assistant principal. Those who worked alongside her knew her as someone who believed deeply in the power of learning, who championed her students with quiet tenacity, and who made the school a place of real belonging. She was not just a professional; she was a presence — one that shaped young minds and warm hearts in equal measure. In addition to her school duties she was a youth leader for several years at First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis, A Girl Scout Leader and Cookie Coordinator for Troop 1316 and a Regional liaison for The NC Council for Holocaust Educators for 10 years.

In 2026, Cheryl had knee surgery, and what followed was the kind of difficult recovery that tests the strength of a person. She faced it with the same steady grace she brought to everything. On Thursday, July 16, 2026, without warning, a blood clot took her from us — a sudden and devastating turn that no one saw coming and no one was prepared for. The cruelty of it is real, and her family is asked to hold a grief that has no easy shape.

She is survived by her husband and devoted partner, Michael Andrew Lange of Kannapolis, who she met in high school; her daughter, Carson Lange; her mother, Loretta Myers of Concord; her mother-in-law, Brenda McCombs of Kannapolis; her Brother-in law, Tom Lange of Concord; her Sister-in-Law, Kelly Moore of Mount Pleasant, SC; her Father-in-law, Steve (Linda); her sister, Kim Spears (Berry); her sister, Tamara Trivette (David) of Lexington; her brother, Brian Dulin of Concord; her niece, Cory Lambert; her nephew, Jared Spears; her nephew, Jake Trivette of Lexington; her nieces and nephews James, Nickolas, Patrick, and Caroline Moore of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Christopher Adkins of Oakboro, Meradith, and Malorie Adkins of Mt. Pleasant, NC; and Bailyn and Audrey Lange of Concord. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Myers, and her step-father-in-law, Carl Daniel McCombs (Dan).

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Wilkinson Funeral Home, with a funeral service on Saturday, July 25, at 2:00 PM, at Central United Methodist Church. The service will be officiated by Stacey Lundy.
