It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Cynthia "Cindy" Setzer Rufty, 72, beloved mother, and grandmother who left us on Monday, July 14, 2025. Born July 28, 1952 in Concord, NC to the late Harry Priscilla Setzer and Elsie White Setzer.
She is survived by her son, David "Michael" Rufty (Carrie), daughters Allison Rufty Heafner (Luke) and Lisa Rufty Brown (Drew), grandsons Gavin Rufty, Mason Rufty, Ethan Brown and Owen Brown, granddaughters Taylor Rufty, Kendall Heafner, and Kinsley Heafner. Preceded in death by her sister Priscilla "Pris" Setzer Hutchison (Daren).
Growing up, she played the clarinet, was a majorette in the marching band, took dance and ballet with her sister, and was involved in 4H. She enjoyed sewing and making clothes for herself and others. She often spent time in her mom's beauty shop where she learned to do hair and nails, and always had the latest hairstyles. She enjoyed outings at the lake on their family boat that her dad built and camping in their popup camper. She was also involved in church, and even attended the same church in her later years.
Over the years, living in Concord and then Kannapolis. Her profession was bookkeeper, within the welding industry at National Welders. She previously worked at Let's Party, had an in home daycare, and worked at Belk. She loved to socialize and could start a conversation with anyone.
Cindy was devoted mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed baking cakes for birthdays and celebrations, and was exceptional at cake decorating. She also made clothing and costumes for all occasions, even making her own wedding dress. She loved spending time with family whether around a meal, vacationing at the beach, shopping, or crafts.
She was incredibly outgoing and would tell you how it is. She was known for her quick wit, creativity, and would talk and befriend anyone she met.
Cindy loved spending time with her Breakfast Group, being involved with her church including singing in the church choir and Sunday lunches, Sudoku and puzzles, burgers and onion rings from What-a-Burger, scrapbooking and crafting, and more than anything she enjoyed socializing with friends and family.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 2:00-2:45 pm at Flow-Harris Presbyterian Church, 308 Winecoff School Rd, Concord, NC 28027. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Flow-Harris Presbyterian Church.
