Darrell Wayne Helms

Mr. Darrell Wayne Helms, of The Gardens of Taylor Glen community, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

 A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday June 29, 2025 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Sammy Pierce and Rev. Steve Barbee. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 2:00 PM. Private burial will be held on Monday, June 30th at Carolina Memorial Park.

 Darrell was born May 7, 1941 in Concord to the late Wilson Lee Helms and Dora Brewer Helms. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Ruth, Eula, Louise and Dot and son Eric Helms. Darrell was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was retired from the City of Concord. 

Darrell will be remembered as someone that never met a stranger, he spoke to every single person he passed by and always had a smile. He was a very given person, putting others before himself. He loved Jesus Christ. He was very active in his community helping others in anything they needed. 

Darrell is survived by his wife Jane Barbee Helms; step son Jeff Gardner and wife, Claudia Gardner of Flowery Branch , GA; grandchildren, Brandon Helms, Brooke, Taylor (Erica), Zack, Jake and Savannah Gardner; great grandchildren, Micah Levi and Loralei Rose Helms, Jaxon Cove and Lola Mae Gardner; and a number of extended family members.

Darrell was a remarkable person, admired for his humble approach and kindness. His passing leaves a void in our hearts.

He will be missed dearly by everyone that knew him.
