CONCORD- Donald Edward Hinson, 88, passed away after a brief severe illness at Atrium Health Cabarrus Medical Center on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
To honor the request of our father, the family will limit the memorial to a private graveside service and burial at West Concord Cemetery.
Born in Cabarrus County on April 21, 1937, Don was the youngest of ten children born to Laura Jane Mabrey Hinson and Ollie Vester “Hop” Hinson. He attended Hartsell High School in Concord, NC and received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force September 9, 1955. Don was a long time member and former active deacon of West Concord Baptist Church. He was married July 26, 1959, to Patricia Jackson Hinson, who preceded him in death on October 24. 2025, after 66 years of marriage. In addition to his spouse and parents, Don was preceded in death by his nine siblings: Sonny James Hinson, Mabel Estelle Hinson, Melvin Ray “Son” Hinson, Evelyn May Hinson, Edna Irene “Sis” Hinson Coble, Hazeleen Hinson, Lewis Richard Hinson, Bobbie Glenn Hinson, and Doris Ann Hinson.
Surviving Don Hinson are his three daughters: Donna Hinson Brown (Jeff) of Concord; Nancy Carol Hinson (Grady Privette) of Zebulon, NC; and Laura Jo Hinson of Concord. Additional survivors include his beloved nephew, Darrell Wayne Coble; grandsons Zachary Jackson Brown (Toni), and Dakota Bland “Kody” Rice (Mallory), and granddaughter, Kory Nicole Rice Kebea (Brandon). The highlights of his life also left to cherish his memory are his great grandsons: Parker Griffin Rice, Maddox Robert Kebea, and Jackson Bowie Brown. He also has a first great granddaughter due this spring. In addition, Don also leaves behind a great number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorials be sent to The Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County at 2010 Wilshire Court SW, Concord, NC 28025 or West Concord Baptist Church at 225 Warren C. Coleman Boulevard, Concord, NC 28027.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Cabarrus County Emergency Medical Services and first responders, the hospitalist group of Atrium Cabarrus Medical Center, and the exceptional providers, nursing staff, technicians, and nursing assistants of Atrium Cabarrus Emergency Department, Internal Progressive Unit, Age Friendly Unit, and Palliative Care/Hospice Team. Your care was professional, kind, and compassionate, and we are forever appreciative for all you did for our father and us.
