Donald E. Hopkins

Donald Eugene Hopkins, 91, of Concord, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 31, 2025, at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Epworth United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Dennis Marshall. The family will receive friends from 10:15-11:00 am prior to the service.

Born June 30, 1934, in Cabarrus County, Don was the son of the late Vera Lee Little Hopkins and William Leonard Hopkins. Don was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gay Dawn Thomas Hopkins; sister, Nancy Long; brother, Mickey Hopkins.

A proud graduate of Concord High School, he went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he built a successful career in banking, working many years with Concord National Bank and later as Vice President at First Charter Bank.

Don’s deep commitment to his faith and community was a guiding light throughout his life. A lifelong member of Epworth United Methodist Church, he served faithfully on the Finance Committee and Methodist Men’s Ministries. He also played a key role in the church’s beloved “Hot Dog Ministry.” Don was active in the Salvation Army’s Men’s Fellowship and proudly served with the Noon Optimist Club.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Myra Hopkins Redding of Concord; sister, Joan Billow; sister-in-law, Peggy Hopkins; brother-in-law, Jim Long; granddaughters, Meredith Pack (Joseph) and Mallory Winstead (Joel); great grandchildren, Everett, Emma, Charlie, and Lucy Winstead and Phoebe and Ezra Pack; and many special nephews and nieces.

Don will be remembered for his servant’s heart, his steady presence, and his unwavering love for his family, faith, and community. He was a quiet but mighty force of kindness in the lives of so many.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church,1030 Burrage Rd. NE, Concord NC 28025, where Don lived out his faith through action.
