Dottie Chertok

Dorothy Ann (Dottie) Mason Chertok of Concord, NC passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Sunday, June 15, 2025. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, June 22 at 2:00 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, Concord with funeral service at 2:30 and interment in the church cemetery.

Dottie was born April 7, 1936 to Edward Mitchell and Catherine Mason in Binghamton, NY. She is survived by three loving daughters, Ellen Brooks and husband Jimmy of Denver, NC, Linda McCrimmon and husband Tom of Mt. Pleasant, NC and Laura Tolbert and husband Rick of Concord, NC; four grandchildren, John Redford and wife Megan, Tommy McCrimmon and fiancé Kaylee Ritz, Christina McCrimmon and Annalee Tolbert; two great-grandsons, Smith and Archie Redford; and two sisters Nejla Abdon and Arlene Johnston.

Dottie was a graduate of Harper College in New York and attended the University of Miami for graduate studies. She met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Chertok in Miami, and they enjoyed 62 wonderful years together until his passing in 2021. She worked as a lab tech, a school teacher, and had a distinguished career at the Department of Energy before moving to the Caribbean. She and Bob lived in Montserrat for 11 years. She worked as a registrar for the American University of the Caribbean where Bob was the Dean of Students. After the eruption of the volcano the school was moved to the island of St. Maarten. They worked there until their retirement in 2003 when they moved to Concord, NC to be near family. In her retirement she played bridge, volunteered in the community, was an active member of her church and loved to spend time with her family.

Dottie was a woman of great faith, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The light of Jesus shined through her by the love, kindness and hospitality she showed to everyone. If you ever met her you would remember her by her smile, the smile that remained until she met Jesus. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
