Concord

Edmund "Ed" Hix, 72, of Concord, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his wife, Sharon.

A funeral service will also be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Josh Peters of Fire Church. Burial will follow at West Concord Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm-12:45 pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home prior to the service.

Ed was born April 23, 1954, in Fairfax, Virginia, to the late Ana Delia del Pozo Hix and SSG (Ret) Webster Augustus Hix II. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Webster Albert Hix III.

Growing up in a military family, Ed experienced life in several different places before graduating from Kendrick High School in Columbus, Georgia, in 1973. He continued his education at Columbus Technical College and Columbus College.

Ed was the beloved husband of Sharon Hix for 49 years. Throughout his working career, he developed a strong background in computers and data processing. He spent over 25 years with Fieldcrest Cannon, where he served as a manager in the computer processing department. He also worked in data processing for a medical center hospital in Columbus, GA, Lowe's, and Food Lion before later working for FedEx.

Ed will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his outgoing personality, and his genuine love for people. He was always ready with a joke or a little good-natured teasing and had a special gift for making others feel comfortable. Ed never met a stranger, enjoyed a good conversation, and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever a neighbor or friend was in need.

Above all, Ed loved his family and took great pride in being a father. He treasured spending time with his sons and was actively involved in their lives as they grew up in Columbus, Georgia. Ed served as a troop leader for his sons' Webelos Cub Scout group, accompanying them on camping trips, helping prepare meals, and always being a dad willing to lend a hand. He was a devoted supporter of his sons, never missing a sporting event and enthusiastically cheering them on from the sidelines. He also enjoyed participating in martial arts and karate alongside his children, creating even more special memories together. Whether coaching, encouraging, or simply spending time with them, Ed found great joy in being an active part of their childhood. His love for children, playful spirit, and genuine willingness to help others were qualities that made him so special to those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, Ed is survived by his two sons, David Anthony Hix and wife, Katie, of Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania, and Jonathan Paul Hix and wife, Lexin, of Surrey, North Dakota; ten grandchildren, Haley (Matt), Gabriel, Caleb, Andrew, Derek, Josiah, Noah, Orion, Anna, and Liam; and two sisters, Doris Carr of Columbus, Georgia, and Kathy Peterson of Haltom City, Texas.

Ed's family will forever cherish his humor, kindness, and the many memories they shared. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to so many.
