Larry was born March 9, 1952 in Concord to the late Edward L. "Teeny" Clay and Peggy Miller Clay. He was also preceded in death by grandson Cooper-Blake Yount.
Larry graduated from Concord High School Class of 1970 where he was a standout on the Spider football team and lettered as a freshman on the varsity baseball team. He later was employed by the Concord Police Department where he retired as a Sergeant serving the community with much honor and pride. Larry received American Legion's Medal of Valor award in 1982 presented by Governor Jim Hunt for a lifesaving mission.
Larry's most enjoyable moments were spent cherishing the achievements of his grandchildren and cheering them on in the stands and bleachers. Hunting and fishing also added a big joy that resulted in a wall full of trophies and stories that proved it.
Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years Geri Safrit Clay; daughter Neely Clay Yount (Jason); son Jeb Clay (Jessica); grandchildren Jase Yount (Emily), and Keen Yount, Lauren Heintz, Lyle and Laynee-Blake Clay; great grandson; Brooks Heintz, sister Jiri Sellers; brother Chris Clay (Susan); and a host of extended family members.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Lustgarten Foundation (pancreatic cancer research), and Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.
