Edward "Eddie" Franklin West III, 77, of Concord, passed away peacefully at his home on May 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on March 23, 1949, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Eddie was the son of the late Ruby Mae Sykes West and the late Edward Franklin West, Jr.
Eddie lived a life marked by quiet strength, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served his country during the Vietnam era-an experience that shaped his resilience and perspective on life.
Following his service, Eddie built a long and successful career in commercial construction, working primarily as a project manager and estimator. He spent over 20 years with Warco before retiring in 2019. He took great pride in his work, not just in the projects he completed, but in the relationships he built along the way. Known for mentoring others and leading by example, Eddie believed deeply in the value of hard work and integrity.
A gifted athlete in his younger years, Eddie played baseball on scholarship at UNC Pembroke. His love for the game never faded, and it became a thread that carried through generations-supporting his children and grandchildren from the stands, on the field, and in everyday conversations.
Above all, Eddie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared 42 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Cynthia Green West. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and love.
Eddie had a gentle and tender-hearted nature. He was known for his firm handshake, warm hugs, and genuine interest in others.
He was a man of simple joys-time with family, conversations with friends, and the comfort of home. His faith was important to him, and he was an active and dedicated member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served in many ways over the years. He was a devoted participant in the church's well-known Thursday hotdog ministry, faithfully serving alongside others each week, and also served as a member of the Board of Trustees, helping guide and support the life of the church he loved.
He especially cherished his role as "PawPaw," finding immense pride and joy in his grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life. In his final days, his beloved cat, Baby Girl, remained faithfully by his side, offering quiet comfort and companionship-a reflection of the gentle love that filled his home.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Green West; daughters: Lindsay West Hough of Concord, Kelley West Johnson and husband, David of Evergreen, CO; son, Edward "Taylor" West of Austin, TX; his cherished grandchildren, Jennings Hough and Ruby Vera Johnson; his siblings, Debbie Miriampetrie and husband Tony of Chapel Hill, and Gary West of Mt. Airy; two nephews; and a number of extended family members and dear friends.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Epworth United Methodist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Dennis Marshall.
Military honors will be rendered in recognition of Eddie's service to his country.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, Hospice, or the Humane Society-causes that reflect Eddie's faith, compassion, and love for others.
Eddie will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply.
