George Thomas Benton Sr.

George Thomas Benton (Tommy) of Concord passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Tommy was born in Charlotte on December 9, 1953.

He is predeceased by his parents, Justus and Elizabeth Benton; his wife, Patty; and brothers, Justus and James. He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Katie; sons, Thomas, Steven, Nick, and stepson, Billy Sutton; grandchildren, Aubrey, Monty, Maddie, Mollie, and Mckenzie; and siblings, Robert, Jean and Janet.

Tommy retired from Benton Truck Service, at which he headed the service department. It was widely known that if anything couldn't be fixed by others, Tommy would be able to fix it.

Tommy will be lovingly remembered as a devoted father and husband who cherished family gatherings. At which he served his famously delicious assorted meats he patiently prepared on his grill, to which he always added his secret ingredient: love. Tommy let no meal be consumed without thanking The Lord first.

He enjoyed feeding not just his pets, but also any of the wildlife that might be nearby. He also loved gardening and tending his plants. He enjoyed being outside and watching the wildlife visit his yard and enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Although Tommy is no longer with those who loved him, his wisdom and life-lessons will be carried on and will not be forgotten.

Eternal rest grant to him, Oh Lord.

A memorial service will be held Monday, March 30th at 2:00 pm in the Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. A burial will follow the service at St. James Catholic Cemetery.
