Harrisburg

Henry Hose Riley III, 81, of Harrisburg, NC, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service to celebrate Henry's life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Church.

Henry was born on December 11, 1944, in Richmond, VA, to the late Garnett S. Riley and the late Henry H. Riley, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Martha R. Bibb.

Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Margaret H. Riley; his children, Parrish R. Mort (Steve) of Cumberland, VA, Henry H. Riley IV "Rex" (J.D.) of Lisbon, Portugal, Courtney E. Riley of Concord, NC, and Gray M. Riley (Emily) of Harrisburg, NC. He is also survived by his brother, David L. Riley, M.D.; his grandchildren, Lauren & Brandon Mort, Jackson & Isabella Riley; his great-grandchildren, Dawson & Wrenley Mort; and many extended family members and friends.

Henry graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) in 1967 and was a dedicated member of the Corps of Cadets. He worked as a Group Supervisor with Philip Morris, spent many years in newspaper distribution with The Charlotte Observer and the Independent Tribune, and was also involved in real estate in Richmond, VA, and Concord, NC.

Henry was a man of service. As an active member of All Saints' Episcopal Church, Henry served in many leadership roles throughout the years. He took great pride in his tenure of volunteering at the gold elevators at Atrium Northeast. Henry became a friend to many. When Henry wasn't volunteering you could find him enjoying a little golf, cheering on the Virginia Tech Hokies, and could often be heard enthusiastically supporting local high school teams (especially the Concord Spiders.) Henry was a proud husband, father, Pops, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. Nothing brought him more joy than the people he loved.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the village that helped care for Henry over the years, specifically: Coltrane L.I.F.E. Center, caregiver Yvonne Snell and the caregivers and staff of Bayada Hospice and TerraBella Senior Living. Thank you for the kindness, compassion, and care shown to Henry and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coltrane L.I.F.E. Center: 321 Corban Ave SE, Concord, NC 28025; The Michael J. Fox Foundation: PO Box 5015, Hagerstown, MD 21741; or All Saints' Episcopal Church: 525 Lake Concord Rd NE, Concord, NC 28025.
