Mr. James Durant Foster age 84 of Concord passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 28th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Cynthia Nanney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Foster was born on October 11, 1940 in Durham County, NC to Hubert J. Foster and Helen Talbert Foster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Willie Foster and a brother, John Foster.
Following high school, James enlisted in the US Army. He was there from 1959 to 1980, having retired as a Major with the Special Forces. He then entered Campbell Law School and was there from 1981 to 1984, having earned his law degree. He was an attorney from 1984 to 2007, retiring after 23 years of service.
James was a member of the NC Bar Association, the VFW, and was a mason with the Allen Graham #695 Lodge. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. As a Shriner, he enjoyed transporting children to the Shriner Children's Hospital in Greenville, SC. James was a longtime member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. He loved the church and his church family.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Margaret Biggers and husband, Fred of Concord; son, Jay Foster and wife, Jennifer of Kannapolis, and grand dog Princess.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richard's Coffee Shop, 165 N Main St, Mooresville, NC 28115.
