Joan Newell Christy

Joan Newell Christy (Jo), age 89, of Concord, passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Joan was born November 18, 1935, in Cabarrus County and was the daughter of Glenn W. Newell and Helen Stancil Crepps. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. "Fred" Christy; sister, Margaret Feimster; brother, George King; a special niece, Karla Miller; and her precious dog, Bella.

Jo was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who always put the needs and happiness of her family before her own. She was always a caregiver, particularly to her mother and her niece Karla.

Jo valued gathering together with her family and sharing good times filled with laughter and love. She was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (who affectionately called her "JoJo"). She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jo is survived by her two sons, Freddy Christy (Susan) of Huntersville and Danny Christy (Rita) of Concord; her grandchildren, Andy Christy (Sarah) and Anna Norris (Jett); her great-grandchildren, Hazel Christy, Charlie Christy, Hampton Norris, Emme Norris, Tilley Norris, and Miriam Norris; her sister, Marilyn Spaulding; numerous nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends.

A private graveside service will be held for the family at Oakwood Cemetery.
