If the purpose of life is to leave people better than when you found them, John Pyndus did so much more than that. Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, he was the shining light in the lives of his parents, Mitchell and Lois. As he grew up in Syracuse, NY, John was raised in the Ukrainian Catholic Church and felt a strong calling to serve others.
Being a man of God, John received his education from Wadhams Hall Seminary College. After graduation, John married the love of his life and his wife of 55 years, Rita Beecher Pyndus. Together, they moved to New Jersey to raise a family while he developed a successful career in finance in Lower Manhattan.
While rising to become a senior executive at Morgan Stanley, John was always a humble man who never forgot his Catholic roots. He attended Mass, often daily, while working in Manhattan. Just one of the many ways John gave of himself during that time was driving a food truck to three of Mother Teresa's soup kitchens throughout the city. Alongside these pursuits, he managed to get a Master's Degree in Biblical Studies at Seton Hall University.
There was never a moment of John's life when he did not put others first. In fact, John received the Freedom Award during the America's Freedom Festival at Provo in 2002 for his heroic acts on September 11th, 2001.
Years later, John moved to Concord, NC, where he continued to serve by volunteering as an American Red Cross Coordinator, helping others through personal tragedies. There has not been a person that has met him that has not been touched by his kindness and love of life.
Loved by all who knew him, he is survived by his loving wife, Rita Pyndus, of Concord, North Carolina; son, Adam Pyndus, along with his two children Madelynn and Adam of Tinton Falls, New Jersey; son, Matthew Pyndus, his wife Karen Pyndus, their children James and Catherine of Oceanport, New Jersey; daughter, Sarah Pyndus Ferris, her husband Frank Ferris and their children, John, Samuel and Anne Louise of Concord, North Carolina.
