IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry Joseph
Williamson
February 10, 1947 – March 7, 2026
Larry was born in the home of his parents, Mr. Joseph Martin Williamson and Irene Carpenter Williamson in Mt. Sterling, KY on February 10, 1947, because they were snowed inside their home and could not get to the hospital. He would joke and tell his family that he was “born in a barn.”
One of five children, Larry graduated from Mt. Sterling High School in 1965. After a quick stint at the Kentucky Business College (now known as Gatton College), he enlisted in the United States Air Force, graduating instead from Lackland Air Force Base Boot Camp in 1966. For three years, eleven months, and 3 days, Larry was a sergeant and a highly skilled mechanic, working on planes and motor vehicles.
Using his skills from the Air Force, he was selected by International Business Machines (IBM) as a top‑notch employee. He retired after working for IBM for thirty‑two and a half years.
Larry was a voracious reader. He was quite fond of Louis L’Amour, having acquired his entire volume of work and reading each one more than once. He loved a good tactile newspaper and he would be happy to discuss today’s opinions and editorial articles and why Charlie Brown would still try to kick the ball Lucy was holding.
In retirement, Larry enjoyed working with his hands; growing and tending to vegetables and constructing several dozen creative birdhouses that adorned his yard. He was a lifelong University of Kentucky Wildcat fan and was always ready for an ice‑cold ALE‑8‑ONE (only in a glass bottle) or a Pepsi.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Beluh Mae Williamson; and two brothers, Jon David Williamson and Robert Glenn Williamson. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Dorries Williamson; four children, Nicole Brown, Eric (Amanda) Williamson, Teresa (Bobby) Macko, Michael (Jelsomina) Altoonian; numerous grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob, Shelby, Amanda Jane, Carlos and Anabelle; brother James David “Jimmy” Williamson and others; Beverly Ematrudo, Carolyn Jessop, John Dorries, and Ann Prosek.
A private ceremony will follow with full military rites to take place at a later date. Larry has chosen to be placed at the Salisbury National Cemetery for Veterans.
The family would like to thank Atrium Hospice for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Concord & Greater Cabarrus County, 2010 Wilshire Court Southwest, Concord, North Carolina 28025 or Atrium Hospice, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis NC 28081, in honor of his life.
