Lena Ruth Riley Green May 2, 1931 – October 7, 2025
Lena Ruth Riley Green, age 94, of Concord, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A graveside service to celebrate Lena’s life will be held at 11:15 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Carolina Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Ronald Hartman. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
She was born on May 2, 1931, in Lee County, Virginia, Lena was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Riley and Ida Marie Ledford Riley. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oscar Lawrence Green, who passed away in 2000; children, Kathy Parris, Oscar L. Green, Jr., Danny Robert Green; and several brothers and sisters, including J. L. “Lee” Riley, Barbara Ann Little, Ronnie M. Riley, and Glenn W. Riley.
Granny grew up in a large family where she was the oldest of eight children. She cared for her younger siblings as they were her own. She went on to have her very own large family. She was a mother of nine children who maintained a loving home while working in the textile mill as a weaver. Lena was loving and welcoming. She was also unfiltered and plain spoken. She always wanted her family to be instilled with strong work ethic and appreciation for value of family.
Lena is survived by her six loving daughters, Ruth Marie “Susie” Reece of Concord, Mary Elizabeth “Kitty” Denton of Coats, Shirley Ann Hunsucker of Concord, Sandra Lee Kepley of Concord, Peggy Lucille Blackwelder of Concord and son, Kelly Mitchell Green of Concord. She is also survived by her siblings, Lucy Riley of Statesville, Gary Riley of Virginia, and Ledford Riley of Virginia; along with 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish her memory.
Lena’s family will always remember her as a loving, strong, and protective matriarch who believed that the best gifts in life were time spent with family and the joy of simple, honest living. She was the glue that held the family together.
