Michele Christine Annable

Michele Christine Mlot Annable died peacefully at home on the evening of Friday, July 17 holding hands with her husband Ross. Suffering the effects of myelofibrosis, she had been in at-home hospice care for 6 weeks with her husband as caregiver.

Michele was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 22, 1945 to Herbert and Ruth Mlot. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1968 with a BS in biochemistry and a very strong academic record. She was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. She and Ross met in 1967 and were married in 1969 at the US Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut where Ross was on the construction crew for USS Seahorse (SSN 669). During her time in Groton, Michele taught grade school. Seahorse, upon completion of testing, was assigned to Charleston, SC where Michele engaged in medical research at the Medical University of South Carolina. Following Ross's resignation from the Navy in 1972, the couple relocated to Boston for further education with Michele receiving her master's degree in biology from Boston College.

They next relocated to Atlanta where Michele, as a result of a hiring freeze at the National Institute of Health, took an administrative position at a private academy. Five years later, the couple relocated to Charlotte. With no attractive medical research position available, Michele reinvented herself into authentically restoring historic homes in the Dilworth area. At this time, interest rates were extraordinarily high resulting in stunted home sales. So Michele, building on the computer accounting skills she acquired in renovating homes, established her bookkeeping services company, an activity she continued for 20 years.

Michele had a natural connection with dogs, leading her to 15+ years of involvement with the Humane Society of Cabarrus County, serving as treasurer and board member for many years, and weekly transporting dogs to the local spay/neuter clinic. She fostered/rescued in excess of 25 dogs over the years and leaves 2 such friends behind.

Michele is survived by her husband of 57 years and by several cousins. She will be interred at Carolina Memorial Park in a private ceremony for immediate family. Those wishing to express their feelings for Michele are asked to perform an extra act of kindness to a four footed creature.
