Robert “Bob” Lee Griffin, 95, of Concord, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at Atrium Health Cabarrus, surrounded by the comfort of family and faith.
A graveside service to honor Bob’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Carolina Memorial Park, with the family greeting friends at the cemetery following the service.
Born on January 25, 1930, in Anson County, North Carolina, Bob was the son of the late Nettie Watts Griffin and Murray “Aubrey” Griffin. He grew up in Mount Croghan, South Carolina, where his intelligence, determination, and leadership were evident early on—culminating in his recognition as valedictorian of his high school class.
After graduation, Bob answered the call to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard, proudly serving aboard the ship Firebush. His time in the Coast Guard was one of the great honors of his life, and he often spoke with deep pride of the friendships, discipline, and patriotism it instilled in him.
Following his military service, Bob built a distinguished career in the life insurance industry that spanned 35 years, working primarily with Kentucky Central Insurance Company and Liberty Life. Known affectionately as “Mr. Bob” to his clients and colleagues, he earned a reputation for his integrity, compassion, and tireless work ethic—qualities that earned him numerous accolades, including being named Salesman of the Year in 1967.
Beyond his professional success, Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared a beautiful life and partnership with his beloved wife, Phyllis Williams Griffin, whose love and support enriched his life for decades. Together they built a home filled with laughter, faith, and enduring love.
When he wasn’t working or spending time with his family, Bob could most often be found outdoors. Deer hunting was his greatest passion, and the quiet beauty of the woods brought him both peace and purpose. Whether perched in a stand before sunrise or recounting stories of past hunts, Bob found joy and connection in the stillness of nature—especially in the mountains near Mount Mitchell, a place that held his heart.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis Williams Griffin; his daughter, Lisa Hutchison; grandchildren, Caroline Whitaker Jarvis and husband Lane, and Nicholas Whitaker and wife Micaela; and great-grandchildren, Nora Jarvis, Emily Jarvis, and Ellie Mae Whitaker.
He will be remembered as a proud American, a man of faith and integrity, and someone who lived each day with gratitude and purpose. Bob’s steadfast love for his family and his deep appreciation for God’s creation leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 Branchview Dr SE, Concord, NC 28025.
