Roger Edward Conway, age 76, of Concord, passed away peacefully at his home on December 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. His life was defined by devotion—to his family, his work, and the many interests that brought him joy.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
Born on March 5, 1949, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Roger was the son of the late Hazel Alene Galbraith Conway and Nelson Astor Conway. He graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1968 and later earned an associate’s degree in accounting from Central Piedmont Community College, all while working at Dover’s Supermarket.
Roger spent more than 30 years in the auto parts industry, a field where his knowledge and kindness were equally legendary. Known as a true Auto Parts Pro, he could identify any part brought in without looking it up and bring back the replacement and the gasket that went with it. Over the years he worked at AutoZone, Penske, Pep Boys, Ace High Performance, and Advance Auto, always taking pride in helping others and treating customers like friends.
Roger was known for his storytelling, his wit, and his unmistakable personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. In his more active years, he played tennis, enjoyed golf, and was a skilled marksman, enjoying time at the range. He was a lifelong car enthusiast who took special pride in his beloved 1972 Barracuda, meticulously built by Henry Turner—a reflection of Roger’s appreciation for craftsmanship, performance, and attention to detail.
Thanks to his wife and son, Roger became a loyal Concord Spiders fan, assisting with things like blowing leaves off the tennis courts before a match when Ed played on the team. He volunteered on Thursday and Friday nights for 20+ years in the Concord High School football press box with his family and Jerry Hathcock, the Voice of the Spiders.
Above all else, Roger was a devoted husband and family man. He shared 54 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Pam Conway, after they met at the Holiday Ice rink in Concord. Their bond was the foundation of his life. He left her notes of love around their home and Roger was indebted to Pam for the years of caretaking through his various health challenges. When asked during a doctor’s appointment to write a sentence, Roger wrote “I love my wife.” He took great pride in his family and treasured every moment spent with them, their dogs through the years, and as Papaw to his only granddaughter.
Roger is survived by his wife, Pam Conway; his son, Roger Edward “Ed” Conway, Jr., and wife Jenn, and their daughter, Chloe Conway; siblings Jerry Conway and wife Sandy of Kannapolis, Patsy Riner of Jacksonville, Florida, and Greg Conway and wife Mary Ellen of Charlotte; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kelling and his staff for their decades of compassionate care and dedication. The family would also like to thank VIA Health Partners for their care and compassion during Roger’s journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Rd STE 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
Roger will be remembered for his generosity, his stories, his love of cars, and most of all, his unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
