Stephen Randall Ikerd

Stephen "Steve" Randall Ikerd, 68, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at his home.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later date.

Steve was born March 30, 1958, in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Sugenia Ikerd Brown and the late W.F. "Bill" Ikerd.

Steve was a 1976 graduate of Concord High School and went on to attend North Carolina State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1981. Following graduation, Steve began what would become a 38-year career as a civil engineer with the Federal Highway Administration. His career took Steve and Angie to several places during his early training years before they eventually settled in Columbia, South Carolina. Through hard work and dedication to his profession, Steve eventually worked up to Deputy Division Administrator before his retirement.

Family was at the center of Steve's life. Through the years, he was a devoted and involved father who coached his children in baseball, soccer, softball, and other activities. That same devotion carried into the next generation as he was especially proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow, attending their activities whenever he could, and spending special time with them.

Steve was a man who knew how to do a little bit of everything. His family affectionately described him as "Mr. Fix-It" and there was rarely a project around the house that he couldn't tackle. Whether remodeling a kitchen or building a bathroom, fixing something for one of his children, tinkering in the garage, or meticulously hanging a picture, Steve believed in doing things the right way. His garage was one of his favorite places to spend time, whether working on a project or simply sitting back and talking with his neighbors and friends.

He also loved spending time at Kure Beach with his family, fishing and flounder gigging, boating on the lake, attending Clemson football games and working in his yard. Mowing the grass was more than a chore to Steve. He took tremendous pride in keeping his yard looking its best. Cooking was another way Steve showed his love for others. He enjoyed grilling and cooking, often making enough to share with friends and neighbors.

Steve is survived by his wife of 47 years, Angela "Angie" Andrews Ikerd; his children, Jennifer Ikerd Schwenter and husband, Jeffrey, Travis Andrew Ikerd and wife, Ashley, and Melissa Ikerd Dimock and husband, Brad; his brother, Brad Ikerd; his mother and father-in-law Phyllis and Eugene Andrews; and his seven grandchildren, Ansley, Audrey, Jack, William, Coleman, Nicholas, and Molly.

Steve will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather; a talented engineer and handyman; and a man who found great happiness in caring for the people around him. The many memories he created with his family during their 47 years together will continue to be treasured for generations.
