Stewart Michael Simpson, 51, passed away on February 6, 2026, in Marietta, Georgia.
Born on September 24, 1974, in Concord, North Carolina, Stewart was the beloved son of the late Cathryn Mowles Bratton.
Stewart grew up in Cabarrus County and was a graduate of Concord High School, having attended Cabarrus Academy and Cabarrus County Schools. He continued his education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, a place that held many meaningful memories and lifelong friendships.
Stewart will be remembered most for the love he carried for his family. He is survived by his former wife, Jill Peden Simpson of Aurora, Colorado; their children, Lande Elizabeth Simpson and Ryal John Simpson, both of Aurora, Colorado, who were the center of his world; his father, Charles Michael Simpson (Eunice) of Harrisburg, North Carolina; his aunt, Elizabeth Mowles Erwin of Roanoke, Virginia; his cousins, Jennifer Lackey Froeschl and Emily Lackey Cain, both of Roanoke, Virginia; and his family, Robert (Bob) O. Bratton of Concord, North Carolina, Robert (Rob) Bratton II (Monica) of Marietta, Georgia, and their children, Robert (Bert) Bratton III, Park Bratton, and Alice Bratton; and Caroline Elizabeth “Betsy” Bratton Curran (Dan) of Nashville, Tennessee, and their children, Catherine Elizabeth (Cate) and John Daniel, II (Jack).
Beyond his devotion to family, Stewart found joy in the things that brought people together. He had a lifelong passion for music—listening, collecting records, and attending shows whenever he could. He was a proud father who coached Little League for his son, Ryal, and loved sharing his immense knowledge of music and seeing bands with his daughter, Lande. Stewart was also an enthusiastic sports fan, faithfully cheering on the Atlanta Braves and proudly supporting the Tennessee Volunteers in any competition.
Stewart was known for his sense of humor, quiet strength and the deep care he showed to those closest to him. Those who knew him best will remember his heart, his presence, and the moments of connection he shared with those he loved. His life leaves behind a story of family, relationships, and memories that will be carried forward by all who knew him. May his family find peace in the memories they hold and strength in the love that continues to surround them.
