Susan Mann Smitherman Snuggs, 83, of Concord, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
A service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Forest Hill United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Wes Judy, with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm prior to the service.
Born April 24, 1942, in Troy, North Carolina, Susan was the daughter of the late James “Jim” Smitherman and Elizabeth “Lib” Wade Smitherman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Clifton Snuggs; brother, James “Smut” Smitherman.
Susan lived a life rooted in love, kindness, and deep devotion to her family. A true homemaker at heart, she created a warm and welcoming home where everyone felt cared for and valued. Early in life, she shared her gifts as an elementary school teacher and later led an after-school program at Beverly Hills Elementary, reflecting her natural love for children and nurturing spirit.
She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—spending time on the golf course, playing bridge with dear friends, and staying active in her community. Susan volunteered with the Salvation Army and was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, where her joyful personality and laughter were always present. She was known for her infectious laugh, radiant smile, and a heart that never met a stranger. Above all, she loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent together.
Susan is survived by her children, Stacey Skeen Eggers and husband Darrell of Concord, Weslyn Carol Snuggs of Concord, and Mark Britt Snuggs and wife Anna of Texas; her grandchildren, Caroline Bullington and husband Ransom, Claire Eggers, Camden Sprinkle, Cramer Snuggs and wife Sarah, Avery Medrano and husband David; and her great-grandchildren, Redmond, Ellie, and Monroe. She is also remembered by extended family members and many dear friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and warmth.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dawn Stirewalt who provided great care for Susan over the last several years, as well as the nurses and staff at Via Health Partners Hospice, whose support meant so much during Susan’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or VIA Health Partners Hospice.
Susan’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, laughter, and quiet strength. The legacy she leaves behind is not only in the family she cherished, but in the countless lives she brightened with her kindness. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in every shared story, every smile, and every act of love inspired by her example.
