A kind, humble, caring and generous man passed away on November 12, 2025. Thomas David Propst Sr. was so loved by his wife of forty years, Anne Marie Bunn Propst, and his children Laura Propst Turner and husband Chris, Thomas Propst Jr. and wife Katie, and Nathan Propst and wife Emily as well as his step-children, though he never thought of them as step anything, Corey Lafferty and wife Ashley and Alison Clougherty and husband Patrick. He was blessed with nine grandchildren who were according to him, the best thing that ever happened!. Eleanor Turner, Ben and Heidi Propst, Charlotte (Charlie) and Emerson Propst, Danielle (Dani) and Lily Lafferty, and Sloane and Finn Clougherty all adored Grandaddy Dave and it was mutual. He is also survived by his loving brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilson and Edith, John and Liz, and Kenny and Annette Propst.
David attended Christ School for Boys where he excelled at making friends and those relationships lasted a lifetime. After Christ School, he joined his brothers at the business started by his parents, Earl and Frances Propst. He worked at Earl's Tire Store on Church Street in his hometown, Concord, for many years. However, that was not his calling. He found that in selling and developing commercial real estate. He loved real estate and attained the prestigious designation of Certified Commercial Investment Member. He was proud of that and he and his brothers and fellow investors changed the face of development in Cabarrus County.
In 2017, his grandson Finn was born and became an inspiration for another calling. He began making sensory devices for blind children in his backyard woodworking shop. He made hundreds of them. He sent them free of charge to parents in need through daughter Alison's not for profit, Blind Early Services of Tennessee.
He loved his family more than anything in this world but he also loved Bald Head Island, his family farm, woodworking, cooking, oyster roasts, his dogs, holidays and bird hunting trips to Canada. He was so excited when Thomas and Nathan and son-in-law Chris joined in his annual Canada trip every October.
His full life began to be slowly taken away from him by frontal temporal lobe dementia in 2019. He made the best of a terrible journey and he never lost his smile. As the illness progressed, he was cared for by the amazing staff of Preston House in Charlotte where they called him the President of Preston House.
A memorial service will held be at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 24, 2025 at St. James Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 1:45 pm prior to the service.
His family urges donations in lieu of flowers be made to Blind Early Services of Tennessee, 104 East Park Drive #100, Brentwood TN. 37027.
