TRILBY ALICE TUCKER WALL

The sun and soul of her family, Trilby Alice Tucker Wall, born in Northampton County and long-time resident of Concord and West Jefferson, passed peacefully on August 20, 2025, in Cabarrus County surrounded by loving and devoted family and friends at the age of 92. Almost always with a smile on her face, she lived her life bringing beauty and joy in service and support of others. She loved flowers; she loved colors, especially purple and blue; she always put others before herself.

Trilby, daughter of the late Leon Fairfield Tucker and Genevieve Gladys Smith Tucker of Murfreesboro, NC, was devoted to her late husband of over 68 years, Robert (Bob) Lloyd Wall, whom she met when they sang together in the Guilford College A Capella Choir. She was his rock, his muse, his true partner in life.

She was adored by her family, including daughter, Silda Alice Wall Spitzer; daughter, Susan Anya Wall Grayson and John Kendall Sheldon; and son, James Lloyd Wall II and Jill Comer Wall; seven grandchildren, Elyssa Spitzer and Ian Wells, Sarabeth Spitzer and Charlie Cabot, Jenna Spitzer and Mathijs Vákár, Katherine Quin Grayson and Keasey Grayson, Robert Wall Grayson, Bailey Elizabeth Wall and Colton A. Plaza, and James Tucker Wall and Hannah Croyle Wall; four great-grandchildren, Rowan Spitzer-Wells, Griffin Spitzer-Wells, Levi James Wall, and Eloise Alice Vakar; her sister, Sandra Tucker Houston and Sandra's son Larry and Cherry Houston, son David Houston, daughter Sarah and Ed Mirra, and Sandra's grandchildren.

In addition to supporting her husband and family throughout his 31-year career in hospital administration and raising three children, Trilby devoted enormous time to church and community volunteering and nonprofit work. Her faith equated with service, helping others in need, and building community. Among her Concord community good works, she was active for a number of years in Concord's Junior Charity League and helped create its Safety Town for Preschoolers program. She was also a board member of Habitat for Humanity, taught Laubach Literacy Classes, and volunteered for the Salvation Army Auxiliary and the Cabarrus Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies. In West Jefferson, she joined the Red Hat Society and the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO).

Trilby was a member of First Baptist Church, Concord, and in West Jefferson she and Bob attended Jefferson United Methodist Church and sang together in the choir there. At First Baptist, she served in many roles over the years from teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School to singing in the choir, serving as GA leader, and more.

She was also an artist who loved creating portraits, flowers, and landscapes in both pastels and watercolors.

Trilby also loved flowers and plants. A Master Gardener, she grew vegetables and berries in her backyard. She was Chairman of the Site Development Committee for the Piedmont Farmers Market and designed its original layout and landscaping. She was also a volunteer for the Cooperative North Carolina Extension Service’s Cabarrus Center.

She enjoyed going to the Outer Banks each summer for family vacations and visiting with family and friends.

A big believer in education, in addition to graduating from Guilford College with majors in religion and psychology, she was constantly reading and learning. In many ways, Trilby was a quiet pioneer ahead of her time with respect to childbirth/rearing practices and nutrition.

After Bob's retirement, Trilby and Bob designed and built their dream home in West Jefferson, NC alongside the New River and delighted in their friends and activities there. In the past several years, she and Bob returned to their home in Concord and then moved to the Gardens of Taylor Glen Retirement Community.

On Saturday, August 23, at First Baptist Church, Concord, Trilby will lie in state from 1 to 2 pm, with funeral service from 2 to 3 pm and visitation with family from 3 to 4 pm. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/user/FBCConcord/live

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus County (habitatcabarrus.org; 8 Church Street South, Suite 101, Concord, NC 28025) and visits to Piedmont Farmers Market (518 Winecoff School Road, Concord, NC 28027) would be appreciated.

While we will be deeply mourning, we will also be celebrating a life well lived and invite attendees to wear bright colors and/or floral patterns in her honor.
