W.L. “Dub” Coleman Jr.

William Luther "Dub" Coleman, Jr., 88, of Mount Pleasant, NC passed away Monday, August 31, 2026, at Morningside of Concord. 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Wilkinson Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Rodney Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church Cemetery. 

Dub was born May 21, 1938, in the Poplar Tent area of Cabarrus County. He was the youngest of 12 children born to the late Cora Belle Springer Coleman and the late William Luther Coleman. Dub was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine Blackwelder Coleman after 56 years of marriage, his brothers, Bill Coleman, Bob Coleman, and Pete Coleman; his eight sisters, Virginia Beaver, Ruth Austin, Willie Maxwell, Mary Smith, Margie Coley, Faye Tucker, Mae Blackwelder, and Martha Earnhardt; and his grandson, Chris Huscusson. 

Dub is survived by his three sons, Tim Coleman (Rhonda), Tracy Coleman (Janice), and Trent Coleman (Gina) all of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren, Loren Coleman, Brittany Quigley ( Alex), Jordan Safrit (Leah), and Chandler Coleman (Megan); and five great-grandchildren, James Quigley, Alyssa, Katie, & Oaklyn Safrit, and Courtney Huscusson. 

Dub spent much of his working life as a mechanic specializing in turf equipment. He began his career with Motor Mower Service in Kannapolis before working for E.J. Smith and Sons, a Toro equipment distributor in Charlotte. He and his brother, Bill, later went into business together, operating Golf & Turf Equipment Service. After selling the business to what became Carolina Turf Equipment, Dub continued working in the industry, including a period working for himself, before joining Charlotte Country Club, where he retired after 25 years of service. 

An avid outdoorsman, Dub loved hunting and fishing and spent many years enjoying both. He also had a lifelong interest in automobiles and racing. He helped his brother-in-law, Ralph Earnhardt, by working on his race cars and as part of his pit crew before Dale, Randy, and Danny were old enough to take over. Dub and Ralph also shared many hunting trips and a close friendship through the years. 

Dub and Lorraine were charter members of Odell Baptist Church. His Christian faith remained important to him, and he enjoyed the fellowship of Bible study and church throughout the years. 

Above all, Dub will be remembered for the relationships he built and the people he welcomed into his life. He was a hardworking, friendly man who could talk to anyone and had a way of making people feel as though they had known him for years. Even during his final months at Morningside of Concord, he formed special relationships with those who cared for him and quickly became a favorite among many of the staff. The family would like to thank the staff members at the Coltrane Life Center, Morningside of Concord, and special caregivers Kris Salas and Leathea Ford.
